Dinner at The Tower of LondonHistoric Royal Palaces

London really is an amazing city.

With spectacular views down the River Thames on a cold winters evening, guests entered over a drawbridge, welcomed by a Yeomen Warder and greeted with a hot toddy served in a mottled silver goblet. They do say first impressions count! As the evening unfolded, guests journeyed through the seasons. From a wintery champagne reception with himalayan salt canapé stations to a spring picnic starter, a steamingly hot veal main course sprinkled with buttermilk foam and finally to an autumnal dessert table laden with indulgent treats.

Half way through the evening we were reminded by a Beefeater that under no circumstances could we leave the venue in the next half an hour as The Ceremony of the Keys took place – a tradition of locking up this fortress and the Crown Jewels within it. This has taken place every single night, without fail for the past 700 years. Only one night was it delayed by 7 minutes…. anyway, that was fine by us, we were quiet happy where we were…
